Object Description
Pictorial rug, tan background with Masonic emblem of red compass with purple and white top, and a white square with black markers, enclosing a gray space with purple symbol of pointed G turned 90 degrees. Border: light yellow-green band on all four edges. Warp: beige (age-yellowed?) cotton; wefts: tan, red, gray, green, white, purple and black commercially processed Germantown yarn. Selvages: weft wrapped around outer warp at sides, 4-ply gray cord and lime green cord added in at bottom; warps tied in groups of four across bottom to form 12 cm fringe.
Warp direction 44 cm plus 12 cm fringe on bottom only, x weft direction 41.5 x depth .2 cm; remnants of tassel at one corner only.
Damage: Bottom selvage broken at one corner, yarn damage, stitches missing in various places: possibly old moth damage, no signs of active infestation.
