Object Description Ganado rug. Broad central panel of red on an overall gray field. Central red panel has five diamond forms down the center and similar half diamonds at sides; center diamond elements consist of a gray butterfly shape in center of a white stepped diamond outlined with black stepped triangles; the side half diamonds repeat the white and black outlines of the central diamonds, but the gray half-butterfly shapes are an extension of the outer gray field and not complete elements. Border: black band around all four edges. Warp: white wool; wefts: red, gray, black and white natural and aniline dyed wool. Selvages: 2-ply gray-brown cords added in at sides, 3-ply gray-brown cords added in at top and bottom.
