Object Description
Rug with five alternating bands, three red bands with two gray diamonds with black outlines extending at either side to form a vertical zig zag, creating the "water bug" motif, and two gray bands with red "water bugs" with black legs. These bands are separated by narrow bands of red, black and white lines; there is a band with narrow stripes, then a narrow gray band and narrow black band at top and bottom. Part of the narrow gray band and narrow red band at one end plain weave over two warps at a time. Warp: white wool; wefts: white wool, black wool, augmented, gray - black and white wool carded together, red wool aniline dyed. Selvages: 2-ply black cords added in at sides, 3-ply black cords added in at top and bottom.
